Relation To Other Standards Bodies

The FSAN Next Generation Access (NGA) task group is studying the evolution of optical access systems beyond GPON. GPON standards are now mature with operator plans in place for volume deployments. In parallel the research community are reporting various future developments of optical access technology. The NGA task group is studying the various technology and architecture options for next generation optical access systems (e.g. WDM, 10 Gbit/s and increased reach/split) and how an operator would evolve from a deployed ITU-T GPON (or IEEE GE-PON) to a next generation access system.
